“While we have consistently worked to reduce our energy usage over the years, the Vickers system has proved to be an effective tool in reducing our carbon output even further. I would recommend that the Vickers system should be considered for installation in all other Smith international sites”
Phil Flanagan, UK Support Services Manager, Smith International
All Fired Up
Smith International, now part of Schlumberger, is a leading supplier of oilfield services for oil and gas companies around the world. Their large engineering site in Aberdeen consumes high levels of energy on a daily basis, equating to over 2.3 million kWh annually.
Determined to remain competitive, Smith International contacted Vickers to help reduce their significant energy costs and reduce their carbon emissions at their Aberdeen facility.
The Vickers Effect
The Wallace facility in Aberdeen is mainly heated by radiant tube heaters positioned throughout three different zones. Vickers team of experts reviewed the site and its heating requirements and introduced a three zone energy management system to deliver the required heating levels within each area at different times of the day and night. As a direct result of this new system, Smith International experienced a reduction in annual energy consumption of over 720,000 kWh, a 31% saving. Their environmental record was improved too with a reduction in carbon emissions of 133 tonnes.
As a result of these impressive savings, Smith international have determined to install the Vickers energy management system into all their facilities that consume high levels of energy on a regular basis.
